Holiday Rambler-Towing a Car

When you travel in your Holiday Rambler motorized RV you are free to go from place to place without worrying about making airline, dinner or hotel reservations. The independence that the RV lifestyle gives you is something that you will come to really appreciate the longer you own your RV. But, there is one thing that will enhance that feeling of free-wheeling independence even more. If you tow a car behind your Holiday Rambler you will have and added measure of independence that you might not otherwise have. While you may not want to pack up your motor home every time that you want to leave the RV Park to go shopping or sightseeing, you can just hop into your car and make the trip without the difficulty of finding a parking spot, securing the vehicle, etc.

Towing a car behind your Holiday Rambler can be a simple proposition if you go about it in the right way. In order for your car and your motor home to be safe you need to follow the guidelines provided by the manufacturer of the motor home, the car, and the towing device. You can tow the car with all four wheels on the ground, with two wheels raised or on a trailer or flat bed.

The first thing that you will need to know is how much your Holiday Rambler can tow. If you are in the process of purchasing a Holiday Rambler make sure that the model you buy can tow the type of vehicle you plan on transporting. Some of the diesel motor coaches can tow 10,000 lbs. or more. But most of the motorized Holiday Rambler RVs can at least haul a small SUV, passenger car, or even a minivan. Every tow hitch, tow dolly (carries two wheels off the ground) and trailer is also rated for how much it can carry or pull safely. Make sure that you also figure any extra cargo that you have loaded in the car in the weight calculations of what your Holiday Rambler can pull.

Not all cars can be towed safely with four wheels on the ground. If the car has an automatic transmission it can damage the car. Check your owner’s manual before you tow this type of car behind your Holiday Rambler.

No matter what way you choose to tow your car, you should make sure that it is securely fastened to the hitch, the trailer, or the dolly behind your Holiday Rambler. Before you head out on any road trip while towing a car, check all of the connections to make sure that there is no fraying, rust, corrosion, etc. that might compromise the safety and strength of the connection to the Holiday Rambler. If you see any problems, do not wait to repair them at a later day, do it now, before it gets forgotten.

Another thing you will need to check is the lights. Most trailers and flat beds come with lights and wiring that is connected through the hitch to your Holiday Rambler lights so that they can be on when you are driving. But, if this is not the case, you can purchase some lights to attach either to the inside or the outside of the car you are towing behind your Holiday Rambler.

RV travel is enjoying popularity with the old and the young, with those who have young families, and those who are just enjoying a twosome. Weekends at the beach or camping in the forest were never more enjoyable-and if you should make a cross-country venture you will do it in style if you have a recreational vehicle-and having a car along just makes it a little easier.
